A Clean Sweep at Provincial Music FestivalPress Release June 10, 1999The two choirs from Guelph Youth Singers who entered the Provincial Music Festival this spring were honoured when they each won first place in their respective categories: Choir II in the fourteen and under division; and the touring choir in the nineteen and under division. The announcement, following the singers most ambitious season to date, highlighted a year full of musical accomplishments for the organization. Under the direction of Linda Beaupré, Guelph Youth Singers were guest artists at the American Choral Directors Association's convention in Chicago. Performing for many of the world's top professionals in the field of choral music, Guelph Youth Singers were acclaimed as one of the highlights of the convention. As the choirs go on to compete nationally in the National Music Festival, many more exciting opportunities lie in wait. Next year, in addition to performing their own concerts, they will travel to Potsdam, New York to perform in a Community Concert Series. The next few years hold many collaborations with other outstanding choirs such as the Elora Festival Singers, the Amadeus Choir and the Elmer Iseler Singers. Guelph Youth Singers, in their eight-year history, have become high profile representatives of the City of Guelph in the field of choral music. This charitable organization was founded in 1991 to provide children from eight to eighteen with an opportunity to experience a professional level of musicianship. The musical ability of the more than one hundred children who are Guelph Youth Singers has been noted in Guelph for some time. This year the musical talent of Guelph's children has captured the imagination of an international audience. Guelph Youth Singers performs up to five major concerts per season as well as workshop, festival, corporate, community and guest performances. Membership in Guelph Youth Singers is by audition.
