A choir for children aged 6 and up who enjoy singing and are interested in making music in a group setting. This is a training choir that aims to teach young singers the basics of singing and reading music and foster a love for choral music. They take part in workshops and performances throughout the year, the highlight being the Winter and Spring concerts.
Choir I practices every Tuesday from 4:15 to 5:45 PM.
This choir is an advanced training choir for children aged 9 and up who love to sing. There is a large theory-based portion to the learning in Choir II, but at the same time the basics of singing and musicality are built on. Choristers are involved in several performances and workshops through the year and have the option to travel away to visit another choir for a weekend. They perform one and two part songs in various styles, from different backgrounds and have the chance to combine drama and song for the Spring Concert.
Choir II rehearses every Tuesday from 6:00 - 8:00 pm.
Cantabile Choir is for children and youth aged 11 and up who can sing well and read music. Repertoire is usually in three parts and includes pieces in different styles and languages. This choir is involved in many performances and workshops through the year, and travels away for two or more performances and retreat weekends during each season. They also often have the opportunity to go on a tour or exchange with the choir.
Cantabile Choir rehearses every Wednesday from 6:00 - 8:30 pm.
The Chamber Choir is the most advanced choir of GYS, and the minimum age for entry is fourteen years of age by December 31 of the fall term. All Chamber Choir choristers must demonstrate excellent vocal technique, independent tuning and the ability to sight-read at an acceptable level. These singers perform difficult pieces while still achieving musicality and expressiveness. Chamber Choir practices every Wednesday from 7:30-9:20 PM. They are involved in numerous performances throughout the year, usually performing together with Cantabile Choir. This combined group is known as Choir III.
